Youth Gamelan Harmony

Not many youths can play Gamelan instrument, even some of them feel that the instrument is not for their age. Such understanding, is what that is going to be changed by a group of students from Yogyakarta AtmaJaya Unversity, in Gamelan harmony performance which was performed in Taman Budaya Yogyakarta, in monday evening.

Gamelan harmony performance which was held in monday evening, in societet building, Taman Budaya Yogyakarta, is the creation of “Teater Lilin” (candle theater) group of Yogyakarta AtmaJaya University (uajy), in commemorating their twenty-first anniversary. Under the direction of the compose, Sukono, the young men showed the harmony of each Gamelan instrument, in a beautiful performance themed “Gamelan Tanpa Batas”, or Gamelan without borders. This is intended as a form of their enthusiasm to the typical Javanese traditional instruments, that is looked down upon by some youths of their age.

Teater Lilin is a student activity unit of Uajy in the fiedl of performance art, Dance, and Music. Particularly for Karawitan, the group is actively doing activities in the Campus, at least twice in a week. More interestingly, most of this group is comprised of students from outside Yogyakarta, who want to preserve Gamelan instrument as native culture of Indonesia.

Indonesian Kris Parade

Beginning the first congress of the national secretariat of Indonesian Kris, or Snki, in Solo, hundreds of the congress participants from various regions in Indonesia, participated in cultural and heritage parade, which was held in tuesday afternoon. Snki congress itself is held in Solo, from the nineteenth to the twenty-second of April two thousand eleven.

The parties from various regions in Indonesia started the parade from the front of the official house of Solo Mayor, in Loji Gandrung, Slamet street, and ended in the congress location in Kusuma Sahid Hotel. All participants were wearing traditional attire from their respective regions, completed with heirloom Kris. For the municipal government, the events of Snki congress and Indonesian heritage parade are joint activity within the framework of preserving culture, especially Keris heritage, that has become part of the culture of Indonesian nation.

The parade participants were headed by a party from Ponorogo, east java. They presented Reog Ponorogo art attraction, and four Dadak Merak (Peacock). The next parties were from Solo palace, Pura Mangkunegaran, Cirebon palace, Yogyakarta, and lastly, Bali. The congress itself will be held to the coming April twenty-second, with Agenda, Among others, are parade, Kris crafting demonstration, exhibition of Kris from the sixth century make, to today.
