In the effort of recovery after Merapi eruption, department of forestry and field—Dishutbun Yogyakarta,
held an event of field trimming and sanitation, as well as plant cultivating and farmer development. The event is intended to fertilize the plantations that are affected by Merapi eruption.
Head of the plantation plant development affairs of Dishutbun Yogyakarta, Priyanto, said that the event, other than to repair the growth of coffee, palm, cloves and zalacca plants that is damaged due to the eruption, it is also to suppress the growth disturbance of those plants. aaa
It is hoped that, after Merapi eruption, all plants can grow well and yield fruits. The targets of the event are farmlands with light to moderate damage levels. such as the coffee plantation of eighty eight hectare, clove plantation of thirty six hectare, four hundred hectare of palm plantation, and thousands of hectares of zalacca plantation, all of which are situated in three subdistricts, Turi, Pakem, and Cangkringan. particularly in Gondorejo Hamlet, Wonokerto village, Turi, Sleman, tenths of residents performed fertilizing of palm and zalacca trees after having received direction from Yogyakarta dishutbun officer, or local ppl.
Head of wonokerto village, kasidi, added that, this event, other than easing off the people’s burden, it can also speed up the recovery after Merapi eruption, especially for the trees damaged by Merapi eruption. For zalacca plants, in particular, it needs two to three years to return to normal, be it the tree’s fertility level and fruit.
