The traditional assets of Yogyakarta are numerous, including Batik cloths, which need to be preserved. In an effort of preserving batik, the batik group of Sekar Jagad continuously attempts to hold souvenir exhibitions.
Different patterns of batik originated from Jogja and other areas are commonly displayed in the exhibitions by Sekar Jagad batik groups. most of the exhibitions are fairly a success, as observed from the raise income with each event. Head of the batik group Sekar Jagad, Larasari Suliantoro explained that such events are necessarily held to place the image of batik as a cultural memento from Yogyakarta. This image needs to be strengthened since it differs from batik made in other areas, in its natural coloring.
Suliantori added that the existence of the hand painted batik should be sustained, since mass production batik already dominates the market. Hand painted batik is a cultural legacy which is already acknowledged by the international world.
