Yogyakarta governor, Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono the tenth, explained that the postponement of roads and infrastructure damaged by merapi’s cold lava, is not because of the lack of budget, rather, it is to wait for rainy season to end. It is because, if cold lava keeps on coming, construction of permanent bridge will only be a waste of budget. Therefore, semi-permanent bridges, such as the existing bailey bridge, will still be used for now.
The damage of several road and bridge infrastructures in merape areas, has caused an urgent need for repair, for the sake of transportation swiftness. However, considering that cold lava flood still keeps on coming due to the prevalence of rainy season, building a permanen bridge becomes problematic. Therefore, Yogyakarta governor, Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono the tenth, took the policy to not build a permanent bridge for the time being, despite the availability of budget for the purpose in the associated agency. Sultan assessed that, immediate construction will only waste budget. Therefore, the solution for the time being is using temporary, semi-permanent bridges, or Bailey, which have been erected in several locations.
Meanwhile, related to the extension of Merapi emergency alert period by Yogyakarta local government, despite the closure of budget allocation from national agency of disaster management, or bpnb, along with the closure of emergency alert period, Sultan Said that, regency or municipal governments can propose additional budget through province. The provincial government will later provide recommendation to bnpb. However, until now, Yogyakarta provincial government admitted to have not yet received proposal from regency or municipal.
