Heavy rain all night long in Kulonprogo regency, has caused Degan Bridge that is located in Degan hamlet two, Banjararum village, Kalibawang subdistrict, Kulonprogo, to collapse. The bridge was functioned as one of the alternative routes which connects Kulon Progo regency and Purworejo, Central java.
Intense rainfall caused the water volume to rise, erode the river cliffs, and eventually bring down Degan Bridge, which is located in Degan hamlet two, Kalibawang subdistrict, Kulon Progo, in friday morning. The bridge connects three subdistricts, Kalibawang, Samigaluh, and Girimulyo. It is also an alternative route from Magelang, through Kulon Progo, Toward Purworejo.
The collapse of Degan bridge upsets the public transportation. Aside from connecting three subdistricts in Kulon Progo, the bridge is also an alternative route from Magelang to Purworejo. in the meantime, the road is closed down by residents because it is dangerous. Local residents only allow two-wheeled vehicles to cross over. Bridge divider looks hanging, the tarmac collapses to the bottom of the river, and the foundation is dragged for several meters from the bridge, due to the strong current of Degan river. the collapse of the bridge is troubling Students going to School, because public transports are prohibited from crossing over. Thus, the Students have to walk, four-wheeled vehicle users have to travel for five kilometers instead of two, through wates city. This condition will drag on if there is no effort.
