A couple coming from Gunung Kidul, Suhirto and his wife, are attempting to make a new icon of the district in culinary sector. They intensively produce delicacies made of fresh tuna, supplied from Sadeng beach. Tuna chips and meatballs are becoming the main products of the industry, which have swarmed markets in Gunung Kidul and surrounding areas. To promote tuna as new innovative products, Suhirto takes part in various exhibition. Unfortunately, limited capital has always been a barrier for him to develop his industry.
Tuna-based products are enriched with high level of protein compounds. Under the supervision of the district’s marine agency and the science and research center of Indonesia, the industry could send one hundred kilograms of tuna-based products to local markets. Suhirto hoped that his products will be widely promoted as a new icon of culinary delights in Gunung Kidul.
