Residents of Gunung Abang hamlet, Bejiharjo, Karangmojo, Gunungkidul, in monday noon, held the tradition of cleaning of river. the tradition which is routinely organized every year, was done by holding a ritual feast with banana tree stand, and Tayub performance, which took place in the sacred spring of Gunung Abang river.
Residents of Gunung Abang hamlet, Bejiharjo village, Karangmojo, in monday noon, once again held the cleaning of river ritual. cleaning of river is held annually after they gathered their harvest of dry field rice. taking place in two springs named, sumber lanang and sumber wadon, they held a ritual feast with stand from the stem of banana tree, which contained rice and various side dishes. in the chance, they held a ritual as an expression of grace to the creator, through the sacred spring of the local village, which is believed to have always providing protection by the people.
One of the important traditions in the ritual is tayuban. According to the elder of Gunung Abang, Sandiyo, Tayuban is obligatory as an offering of entertainment. Sumber lanang is believed by people as the source of life. according to stories, the water from the spring is believed to be able to heal diseases. Therefore, through the spring of abang river, they hold ritual as an expression of grace, for the mercy given by the creator.
The residents of Gunung Abang were not the only ones who attended the ritual, but residents from other regions also came to perform ritual or watching Tayub art. The event is held by people of Gunung Abang to preserve the culture and traditional heritage of the ancestors, with hopes that it will not be forgotten by future generations.
